If you are still managing your marketing strategy as if the Google SERPs are the only destination that matters, you are already losing. The shift toward Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) isn’t just a trend; it is a fundamental architectural change in how information is discovered. When users ask a question, they no longer want a list of blue links—they want a synthesized answer from a trusted entity.

My role has evolved from chasing keywords to managing influence across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and Perplexity. To stay ahead, you need a repeatable framework. I call this the AI Visibility System. It is built on three pillars: Monitor, Analyze, and Create. If you aren’t doing all three at a city-level and language-specific scale, your brand is effectively invisible in the age of Google AI Overviews.

Phase 1: The Baseline Audit

Before you optimize, you must quantify your current footprint. Most companies make the mistake of looking at search volume, which is a vanity metric in the LLM era. Pretty simple.. Instead, you need to establish your AI Authority Rank. This metric tells you how often your brand is cited as an authority in responses when users ask category-specific questions.

Run a crawl across top-tier generative engines. Don’t trust global averages. If you provide services in London, your visibility in London must be measured independently from your visibility in New York. Sanity-check results by location—always. If the AI thinks your US-based law firm serves a specific suburb in Paris because of a stray blog post, your data is compromised.

Phase 2: Entity Mapping & Contextual Anchoring

LLMs don’t “read” websites like crawlers do; they evaluate the strength of your entities. Phase two is about mapping your brand as the answer to specific user pain points.

  • Identify the “Knowledge Graph” of your niche.
  • Map your brand entities to specific industry problems.
  • Ensure your technical documentation is structured for machine consumption (schema is still king, but the context is queen).

If the AI sees you as a generic provider, you will never be recommended. You must be the specific solution for a specific intent.

Phase 3: The Gap Analysis (Monitor & Analyze)

This is where you identify the “black holes” in your visibility. Use tools like FAII to track where competitors are being mentioned and you are not. I keep a running list of promises these tools make versus what they actually do. Most tools claim to show “brand sentiment,” but what you really need is AI Visibility Score tracking.

Ask yourself: If a user asks, “Who is the best provider for [Service X] in [City Y]?”, does your brand appear? If the answer is no, analyze the source material the LLM is using. Often, it’s not using your site at all—it’s using a third-party review site or a directory. Your task is to influence those secondary sources.

Phase 4: Synthesis Generation (The “Create” Phase)

You know what’s funny? stop writing for keywords. Start writing for the model’s training data. Your content needs to be “synthesis-ready.” This means clear, concise, and definitive answers that an LLM can easily pluck and drop into a response.

Use the following table to adjust your content creation strategy:

Format Old SEO Approach GEO Approach Company Info Hidden in footer Explicit, factual entity definitions Pricing Focus on high-intent clicks Clear tables; even if your pricing page is referenced but no prices are shown in the scraped content, you must provide context on your tier structure Expertise Keyword stuffing Demonstrable citation-worthy facts

Phase 5: Brand Recommendation Loops

This is the most misunderstood part of GEO. You don’t just want visibility; you want recommendations. When an LLM recommends a product or service, it’s pulling from a weighted internal model of “what is reliable.”

You influence this by increasing your brand mentions in high-authority, crawlable domains. If you are mentioned in industry journals, newsletters, and verified social conversations, the LLM starts to associate your brand with positive sentiment. This is a continuous optimization game. You aren’t “ranking” once; you are constantly reinforcing your relevance.

Phase 6: The Localization & Cultural Calibration

I cannot stress this enough: If you don’t check city-level results, you are flying blind. Language-specific visibility is even more critical. An AI’s understanding of your brand in Spanish might be vastly different from its understanding in English. You need separate strategies faii.ai for different locales to ensure your brand’s core values don’t get lost in translation.

Phase 7: Feedback Loop & Iteration

The final phase is the “if this, then that” loop. Your AI Visibility System should look like this:

  • IF AI Visibility Score drops in a specific region THEN initiate a content-injection campaign on local citations.
  • IF your brand is mentioned but lacks context THEN update your “About” entity schemas.
  • IF a competitor consistently beats you for a specific question THEN analyze the structure of their top-performing content and synthesize a better, faster, more accurate version.
  • What You Need to Do Next

The transition to an AI-first marketing strategy is daunting, but it follows a clear logic. Stop obsessing over Google SERPs exclusively and start looking at how your brand lives in the latent space of LLMs.

Here is your immediate action plan:

    • Audit your brand mentions: Use an AI Visibility Score tracker to see where you stand today.
    • Check your schema: Ensure your entity data is machine-readable and accurate.
    • Refine your “Synthesis” content: Ensure your most important answers are at the top of your pages, not buried in long-form fluff.

The era of “ranking everywhere” with a single strategy is over. The era of targeted, entity-driven, and location-aware visibility has begun. Don’t wait for the traffic to drop—build the system that ensures you are the first brand mentioned in the next big AI query.
